Palautus: palauttaa, vaihtaa, hyvittää
Three verbs cover the whole counter: palauttaa (give it back for money), vaihtaa (swap for another), and hyvittää (credit you). Finnish shops are matter-of-fact about this, so a flat statement works better than an apologetic story.
