Passing it on: se sano et
To report what someone said, use a saying verb + 'et': Se sano, et se tulee = They said they're coming. Spoken past forms shorten (sanoi → sano, lupasi → lupas) and 'että' becomes 'et'. The same frame works with kuulla (hear), kysyä (ask), luvata (promise) and väittää (claim).
